Who is an ‘Avanti Fellow’?
An Avanti Fellow is an 11th / 12th standard student who:

a) comes from a financially disadvantaged background, with an annual household income under Rs 2.5 lakh per year ($4,500)
b) has shown an aptitude for a professional education in engineering, science or medicine.

How does Avanti Fellows identify deserving students?
Avanti works with government schools, education NGOs and partner coaching institutes to identify eligible students in Class X.
What is Avanti’s selection process?
Applicants to Avanti sit a rigorous academic test. We also interview potential Fellows at home with their family to assess motivation and financial need.
What does Avanti Fellowship involve?
Once students are accepted onto our programme, Avanti works with them through Classes XI and XII to prepare for their college entrance exams. We also provide mentoring and guidance support to them throughout their college career.
How are college students involved?
Avanti uses the talent, resources and time of a network of students from leading colleges. Almost 200 students currently volunteer across seven cities in India, helping with outreach, publicity and, mentoring support. A small full-time team supports the student chapters by monitoring their progress and standardizing processes.
What is Avanti’s relationship with coaching institutes?
Avanti works in partnership with a number of leading coaching institutes to provide free or highly-subsidised places for students to prepare for college entrance exams.
How is Avanti funded?
Avanti is an NGO and relies on donations and grants. Over time we plan to become self-funding, increasing our reach across India.
How many students does Avanti Fellows reach?
To date, Avanti has recruited 350 bright young students from under-privileged backgrounds.
Where does Avanti work?
Avanti works through student-led chapters at 5 IIT campuses: Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Roorkee and Kanpur, at VJTI, Mumbai and at Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi. Additionally, Avanti also has operations in Dehradun and Pondicherry.
