In May, Avanti founders Krishna and Akshay travelled to New York for the finals of the 2012 Echoing Green Fellowship, a programme which provides seed funding and business support to social entrepreneurs from around the world. The 38 finalists were picked from over 3,500 applicants, with 20 winners – among them Avanti Fellows!
The Fellowship marks a great achievement for all the volunteers, staff and students who have worked so hard over the past two years. Recognition from a respected international organisation is a sign that Avanti’s student-led model is a success, and that’s due to the hard work of all our volunteers across India.
As well as technical support, health and travel costs and international partnerships, the fund also brings $90,000 funding. As Avanti grows, financial investment is crucial and makes the Echoing Green fellowship doubly good news. In the words of one of Avanti’s staff team, “Thank God – I can now be sure that I will receive a salary this year!”
A big thank you to all of our team – staff, volunteers and supporters – who have shown that committed and passionate volunteers can make change happen in India’s elitist higher education system.
