As any undergraduate knows, often it’s not what you know (or how well you do on tests) but who you know that matters. More specifically, it’s who you’ve been able to meet and the work experience you’ve been able to get during your summer internships. These placements not only give students a taste of working life, they can be massively useful in terms of meeting senior professionals, getting advice on different fields and exploring what you really want to do after graduation.
That’s why it’s so exciting for us to see our Avanti Fellows taking up summer internships with our corporate partners. Aditya, an industrial engineering student in IIT Delhi, is looking forward to starting his internship with Halonix Ltd., one of India’s leading fluorescent and halogen lighting providers. Aditya comes from Rajasthan and is the first person from his village to pass the IIT-JEE. At Halonix, he will spend 4 weeks at the company’s Haridwar factory to work on operational improvements and another 4 weeks on marketing and sales initiatives in the Noida corporate office.
Manoj and Rahul, both mechanical engineering students at IIT Delhi, will intern at Endurance’s Chakan factory near Pune. Both of them hail from rural backgrounds and studied in Hindi medium schools, so this is a great opportunity for them to pick up professional skills at a fast-growing corporate.
Sunil, a civil engineering student and one of his batch toppers, always wanted to intern at the Delhi Metro. Through Avanti’s networks, he got the chance to interview with them and is now super excited to spend the summer applying his civil engineering skills to a public sector project.
We wish all 4 students challenging and rewarding time at their internships.
Finally, a special thank you to the folks at Actis, whom we have closely worked with over the last few months. Halonix and Endurance are both portfolio organizations of Actis. Through their CSR programs, they helped us set up these wonderful internship opportunities. If you’d like to know more about how corporates can engage with Avanti, we’d love to hear from you.
