It takes a lot of hard work behind the scenes to keep Avanti Fellows running. Conducting outreach to identify bright students, meeting new fellows, recruiting volunteers, making sure our mentors have the support they need – sometimes it feels like the team is in several places at once!
From the start, Avanti has benefited from the efforts of our student volunteers. Without the time they give up from their busy schedules, none of the outreach, mentoring or support that Avanti offers deserving students would happen.
And now we have six student interns who are giving even more time over this summer to help Avanti grow. Our interns are:
Kanksha Gupta – Kanksha is a fourth year UG Physics student at IIT Kanpur. This summer, she will mentor 40 Avanti Fellows in Mumbai. On weekends, she plans to explore every nook and cranny of the Maximum City.
Prashanth Durai – Prashanth is a third year UG Chemistry student at IIT Kharagpur. He plans to study public policy after IIT. Over the next 6 weeks, he will mentor 18 Avanti Fellows in Chennai. His knowledge of the Tamil language and local culture will also be invaluable as we establish our pilot program with the Chennai Corporation schools
Govind Gullbadharh – Govind has completed his second year of undergraduate studies in Chemical Engineering at IIT Roorkee. This summer, he wants to devote time to his true passions: social work and writing short stories. He will be mentoring 16 fellows in Roorkee and 17 fellows in Dehradun over the next 7 weeks.
Gurpreet Kaur – Gurpreet has completed her first year of undergraduate studies in Textile Technology at IIT Delhi. This summer, she will be mentoring 42 students in Delhi. By interning at Avanti Fellows, she wants to understand the real life challenges we face in working for a social cause.
Gangaprasad Koturwar – Gangaprasad has completed his second year of undergraduate studies in Computer Science at IIT Kanpur. He is a Dakshana Fellow, and truly believes in the cause Avanti is working for. Over the next 6 weeks, he will teach 34 students in Kanpur, and help develop the content for selection and training of Avanti Fellows.
Saurabh Baranwal – Saurabh is a third year undergraduate student of Mathematics and Scientific Computing at IIT Kanpur. He has been a part of the IIT Kanpur chapter as a mentor and wants to take his interests further by interning with Avanti Fellows over the summer. He shall be mentoring 34 students in Kanpur.
We’d like to say welcome on board to all of our interns, and a big thank you for all the work that you’ll be putting into Avanti Fellows.
